Within Her

Within her is Spring
wrapped in an occasional tropical storm
Tulips bloom beneath her feet
Calling each freckle by name
Knew that her roots were well water
so earth shifted when she spoke
Had to make room for gifts to grow
Courage push through like sunflowers
bold and uncensored
Even though voice shook
She spoke
Mountains mustered up the courage to stay still
when she laughed
Body bloomed beneath soft layers
Red robins inhaled God and shea in her hair
Ate seed from her hands
called her home sweet enough to build nest upon
Optimism lay infinite within her reach
Patience planted peace in her belly
This is what it feels like to fall in love
This is what it feels like to be loved
Winter came
its billowing wind blew out kin's candles
frost muddle her whimsy
caused girl flowers to weep
Caused luminosity to fade
turned her lakes into puddles
Leeches thirst
but she has nothing left to give
Nights have become longer than mornings
Hails falls freshly on her head
Bitter cold penetrates her heart
so she doesn't believe in make believe
anymore
Like Elsa she's let go
Let go of the hope she once held hostage
Let go of the fairytales she conjured in her dream
It hurts too much to pray to a savior now
Sometimes winter last so long you forget
the warmth of the sun
This is what it feels like to fall out of love
This is what it feels like to question if it
was ever love in the first place
