What does it mean to be a cactus in a world full of aloes

Recently, I was invited to be apart of this "Year of The female Boss" photo shoot. The idea behind the photo shoot according to creator and organizer Jeanita Castille was to bring 200 career driven women together to network, encourage, and simply support one another. You didn't have to own your own business to be apart of this shoot, but you did have to be a "boss" and that is a woman that takes care of her own business. A boss is a "goal getter". She is smart, takes care of her family, stays focused, and still meets her goals all at the same time. At first I must admit I was intimidated by these women. I didn't see myself as accomplished as some of those I read about in the intros Jeanita had asked us to share. I honestly haven't worked as a creative program specialist that long, so I still feel kind of new to this career thing. I didn't know if I would have much in common with these well watered women; because I just started drinking from the well they all seem to come from. Then it hit me that even cacti have purpose. For cacti have the ability to flourish in arid conditions that other plants cannot. God reminded me that my job as a cacti isn't to compete with the aloes, but to join them to make our own kind of beautiful. For where one woman is weak the another is strong, and they can look out for each other along the way.
